A year away

21 things we learned when we moved our family to another country for one year.

Home & Happiness

  • Take a deep breath.

Realize you’ve got one day. One that starts now, and will end when you get back into this bed tonight.

  • ``Good morning``

Say it with love. Say it with good intentions.
Say it with a smile. Say it happy.

See the other person: your partner, your child.
    Let them know they’re seen.
    Notice how they’re feeling.
    Appreciate they’re in your life.

  • ``Good bye``

    I love you
    – Have a good day
    – Learn something
    – Have some fun

  • It all starts with ROUTINE.

    • Get things ready the night before – this saves, time, stress
      • Clothes ready, especially if they’re a specific clothes needed (uniform for fieldtrip, special color for whatever day, costume for Halloween party…)
      • Anything out of the ordinary
      • Prepare your coffee
      • Backpacks
    • Start programming this in young – > our example: list: Backpacks ready… It will become automatic (RISK: what if they reject it? can overdoing it backfire”?)
    • Make a checklist that kids run through:
      • before bed (to prepare)
      • before leaving the house (so nothing’s forgotten)
